Diocesan Heating Assistance Program (DHAP)

The Diocesan Heating Assistance Program began in the winter of 1982-83. It has assisted 7,987 families (26,118 persons) with heating assistance totaling $1,102,906. The program operates from January 2 through March 31 or as long as DHAP funds last. Through this program, individuals and families in the nine counties of Diocese are provided assistance with heating bills. Maximum amount is $200 per household per heating season.

The program depends on:
  • Voluntary Collection taken in Parishes on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
  • Parish Volunteers who assist families with checking resources and applications.
  • Core of Volunteers at Catholic Family Services who process DHAP applications, bills.
  • CFS Staff who sign and mail checks.
