Bishop Bradley has appointed Mr. Edward Carey, Jr. as Chief Financial Officer/Director of Human Resources/Coordinator of Special Projects for the Diocese of Kalamazoo. Currently Mr. Carey is Chancellor/Chief Financial Officer for the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Prior to his work with the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Mr. Carey held leadership positions with the Diocese of Kalamazoo for 13 years, including the roles of Chancellor and Diocesan Fiscal Manager.
“We are very happy to welcome Ed back to his home Diocese to assume these major leadership positions within our Diocesan Pastoral Staff”, said Bishop Paul J. Bradley. “Ed brings us his valuable gifts of great expertise, a wealth of experience, and multiple talents within the fields of financial management and administration, as well as the important area of Human Resources. In addition, he already knows our Diocese very well, having worked in leadership roles under all three previous Bishops, Bishop Emeritus James Murray, Bishop Alfred Markiewicz and Bishop Paul V. Donovan. I enthusiastically welcome Ed and look forward to the many ways I am certain he will once more greatly contribute to the growth and financial well-being of our Catholic community here in southwest Michigan.”
Mr. Carey will begin his position with the Diocese on October 17th. As Chief Financial Officer for the Diocese he will have responsibility for all Diocesan-related financial management, and also will serve as the Director of the Diocesan Business Office. In addition, he will serve as the Director of the Human Resources Office for the Diocese, as well as serve as Coordinator of Special Projects.

A native of Cleveland, Mr. Carey earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, and his Master’s Degree in Accounting from The Ohio State University. In addition he has served on many Catholic advisory boards both within the Diocese of Kalamazoo and at the state level. Mr. Carey was instrumental in the completion of the Diocese of Grand Rapids’s Cathedral Square project and was awarded the Holy Father’s Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross in 2013.
Mr. Carey and his wife, Dr. Colleen Carey, have four children and are members of St. Augustine Cathedral Parish.
The Diocese is holding its first Young Adult Fair on Saturday, September 17th from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral's Crowley Center. All are welcome for Mass celebrated by Fr. Marotti, followed by program presentations from several young adult ministry groups from around the diocese. Young adult fellowship will begin with lunch (provided) around noon, followed by a whiffle ball tournament sponsored by Kzoo Catholic Sports League. The day will end with prayer around 2:15 p.m. Please come and bring a friend!
