What do Helpers do?
Throughout the weekend, helpers are an important part of the Christian
community that forms. They are expected to join in all the activities as
well as help retreatants as needed. This can include working as a team
on a skit, helping with a craft project, spending time talking with retreatants,
taking a turn doing the dishes or helping with shoe tying or hair combing.
Who can be a helper?
Helpers must be at least Juniors in High School. Adults are welcome as are families
with children.
Can I come for part of the weekend?
Helpers are expected to be present for the entire weekend. Usually this means
from 5:30 Friday evening to 1:00pm Sunday. Although exceptions are occasionally
made to this rule they are discouraged since it interferes with community building.
One exception is Saturday evening, youth groups and others sometimes come to
host a dance, basketball game or other group activity. Any group interesting
in hosting an activity should contact Ministry with Persons with Disabilities.
Where would I go and what would I bring?
Once a helper is accepted a packing list is sent along with maps and directions.
Dress on retreats is casual and sleeping bags are needed for some locations.
How do I sign up?
All registration forms must be filled out by volunteer helpers in High
School. Adults only need to fill out the registration form. Send the form and
deposit of $30.00 at least two weeks before the start of retreat to Ministry
with Persons with Disabilities.

Why do volunteers have to pay?
The deposit fee is returned to volunteers who cancel 2 days before retreat or
fulfill their commitment to help over the weekend. There have been problems in
the past with Persons registering to help and then not attending the weekend.
Besides the loss of expected help the Diocese had to pay the retreat facility
for the number registered.
